DogTipper Review: When we were asked by Puppy Party Place about reviewing some of their party supplies for dogs, we knew we wanted to try Mr. Barksmith’s Cool Treats. We’ve reviewed some of the other super party goodies Puppy Party Place sells but this also seemed like a great product not only for dog parties but for hot afternoons at home. We’ve been hit by a doubly whammy of record heat and drought this summer and since early May we’ve been looking for ways to keep our dogs cool and happy.

The Smoothies Server is a great idea for any pet parent who has ever given their dog a frozen treat…and then watched their dog scoot the frozen treat around the floor or, even worse, around outside in the grass or dirt. The server acts as a bowl with an anti-skid base. Mr. Barksmith’s Cool Treats then fits right inside the bowl so your dog can enjoy the treat neatly and mess-free; when he’s done, you just discard the container the treat came in, wash out the bowl, and then save it for the next Cool Treat in the future.

The Cool Treat itself is a low-calorie (28-33 calories, depending on flavor), low-fat treat which was very attractive to us right now because the heat has the dogs’ activity level lower than usual. The all-natural treats are wheat and gluten free, non-dairy products made with human-grade ingredients.

The treats come in two flavors:

  • Fruit with Hint of Mint: This 33-calorie treat is made with apple puree, banana puree, water, pear puree, natural peppermint extract, and ascorbic acid (vitamin C).
  • Fruit ‘n Peanut Butter Flavor Cool Treat: This 28-calorie treat is made with apple puree, banana puree, water, natural peanut butter flavor, ascorbic acid (vitamin C).

It was time for our official treat testers to do their work. We headed out on the porch, thinking, as with other frozen treats they’ve enjoyed, that would be the least messy option. We sat the Smoothies Server on the porch and stood back to watch them enjoy it…and Irie grabbed hers up in her mouth and took off!

She circled around the yard then headed back to the front door, ready to go in the house with the Smoothie Server. OK, we’ll give it a try. We headed in and Irie immediately headed to the couch with her Cool Treat:

She enjoyed every last drop of the Cool Treat…and all without getting a DROP on the couch cover!

A big paws up for Mr. Barksmith’s Cool Treats and Smoothies Server! Along with being a low-calorie, natural treat, we also love the fact that it’s mess free!

Price: At Puppy Party Place, the Smoothies Server with a Cool Treat sells for $6. Cool Treats can be purchased in cartons of six for $7.99 at

Disclosure: We received two Mr. Barksmith’s Cool Treats and Smoothies Servers from Puppy Party Place for review; we were not paid for our review and all opinions are entirely our own.

I just purchased some for Schooner and Skipper. I can hardly wait for smoothies and the cool treat server. I order the Fruit with Hint of Mint and Fruit with Hint of Mint with the servers. Which one did you serve to Irie?

  • Oh. My. Gosh! How great is this? Our boys get Frosty Paws and I’ll bet we could pop ’em in here, right? (I sure hope so ’cause they sure do know how to maximize the mess on those!)
