Review: Freshpet Dog Joy Fresh Bones

Freshpet® Dog Joy Fresh Bones

What it is: All natural, refrigerated dog chews, an alternative to bones

Manufacturer: Freshpet, Secaucus, NJ; (made in USA)

DogTipper Review: Recently, we reviewed Freshpet’s Select Roasted Meals, chicken-based, refrigerated dog food made with no artificial preservatives. That was just one of Freshpet’s refrigerated line of pet products; we also received several of their dog treats and chews for review.

Dog Joy Fresh Bones are hefty-sized (about five inches long) and are made with a chicken-based center baked inside a crunchy brown rice wrapper.

The ingredients are listed as:

Brown Rice Flour, Water, Vegetable Glycerin, Tapioca Starch, Whole Ground Oats, Gelatin, Chicken, Natural Chicken Flavor, Calcium Carbonate, Apples, Parsley.

Freshpet offers the following nutritional analysis:

minimum crude protein 12%
minimum crude fat 2.5%
maximum fiber 2%
maximum moisture 15%

Dog Joy Fresh Bones do not contain corn, wheat, soy, artificial colors, sugar, salt, or by-products. Since they also do not contain any preservatives, they must be refrigerated after the package is opened.

Irie and Tiki didn’t need any coaxing to try these chews…

Upon receiving them, they immediately headed for the bed where they solemnly went to work on the chews…

This was a sign that they really liked them; only the best treats and chews are taken to the bed without any of their usual silliness. Their verdict? Paws way up!
