DogTipper Review: Pet parents know that dirt happens…everywhere. And that means carpeted areas that you might not be able to reach with a big carpet cleaner like stairs, your car seats, or upholstery in your home.

In our house, much of that cleaning needs to take place on area rugs. As we’ve written about before, we’ve been experiencing a record drought here for the past year. That’s meant a dead lawn so the house is pretty much surrounded by dirt…dirt that the dogs and everyone else walks in the front door with each trip. In our living room, we have a large area rug that we vacuum almost daily…but we knew it was dirty nonetheless.

So we were especially interested in reviewing Bissell‘s Lift-Off® Deep Cleaning System. This two-in-one system has an upright deep cleaner for cleaning your whole carpeted room or large rugs plus a portable spot cleaner for those hard-to-reach areas.

That upright cleaner features 12 rows of bristles with two brushes…

…or, with just a step on a release pedal, you can take off the portable unit to clean stairs, upholstery, or places you just can’t take the full unit.

For our review, though, we concentrated on the area rug. First, we vacuumed the rug thoroughly. Next, we added hot tap water and Bissell’s cleaning formula to the unit, an easy process that took only minutes. Next it was time for cleaning. The cleaning process was simple with a pass forward and backward spraying solution then another pass without solution to remove the dirty water and help dry the rug.

The dirt that came out of the rug was…well…just plain gross. This is one batch of water; it took two batches to clean the entire rug…

Besides the dirt, the Bissell also pulled up amazing amounts of dog and cat hair from deep inside the rug. The final result was a rug that was brighter (we didn’t even realize the rug had been looking so gray and dusty.) A big paws up!
