DogTipper Review: Like most dog parents, we take LOTS of photos of Tiki and Irie for use on DogTipper and some just for ourselves. But, we struggle with keeping those voluminous photos organized. Even with the various tools available such as iPhoto, Flickr, Picasa, Dropbox, Shutterfly, etc., it’s a challenge when we want to revisit past events in our life with our dogs. With digital photos, it’s way too easy to take a bunch of shots, download them, then forget where they are stored when we want to retrieve them. And, storing digital shots online or on storage devices (computer, CDs, DVDs, external hard drives) is not a guarantee that they will be available forever. Storage media can fail or become obsolete and online services can cease operations. We’ve read recommendations that in addition to storing photos digitally, it’s a good idea to actually have hard copies of your best images. Not only does this add another layer to your photo preservation strategy, it’s nice to have those extra-special photos easily accessible, and nothing is more accessible than a traditional photo album.

My Dog’s Life, a handsome spiral-bound album, is a good way to begin organizing and preserving your precious canine memories. Created by Nancy Dewar, a former advertising and marketing professional who now develops pet-related books, My Dog’s Life provides a way to jump-start the process. The book is organized around events in a dog’s life with pages devoted to

  • Welcome to the World
  • Homecoming
  • Favorite First Photos
  • Notable Firsts
  • Antics

and so on, through the various stages of your dog’s life. There are also sections for Birthdays, Holidays, and Special Times. Depending upon the size, the album has space for up to 65 photos as well as a place for your notes and comments.

We’ve all seen (and maybe been the subject of!) baby books, and it’s nice to have a similar way to commemorate the lives of our fur-babies. The author has done a companion volume for cats, My Cat’s Life: a Photo Journal of Independent Love.

My Dog’s Life: a Photo Journal of Unconditional Love is available from www.snazzyjazzypet.com ($15).

Disclosure: We received a copy of My Dog’s Life: a Photo Journal of Unconditional Love for review; we were not paid for our review and all opinions are entirely our own.
