In 20 years of writing guidebooks and magazine articles that took us everywhere from Egypt to Ecuador, Borneo to Belize, we always had a set packing list for every trip. Although the trip itinerary and weather conditions might vary by destination, we always packed some items on every excursion. These staples remained in our suitcases once we were back home so that we’d be all set and ready to go a few weeks later for the next assignment.
That packing always included a medicine and first aid bag, zippered plastic bags of must-have medications and first aid supplies. Yes, we could have probably purchased supplies at our destinations but we never knew what our schedule would be, which brands would be available when we did make it to the store, and how long it would take us to find the product we needed…all the while wasting time that should be spent treating the injury/illness. And, regardless of the injury, who wants to spend time on a trip looking for a store?
Now that our travel revolves around our dogs, we take the same packing preparations…now including dog first aid items! Last week, we went to Inks Lake State Park to celebrate Tiki’s fifth “gotcha day.” We took along the travel-sized Dr. Emmo‘s Wound Care Wash and Wound Care Gel. The products provide a two-step solution to pet first aid: first use the wash to clean the wound then apply the gel to soothe and continue to clean and heal. (Stay tuned for another review tomorrow of the full-sized products and how they’re used!)
Well, I’m happy to say that we didn’t have to use Dr. Emmo’s Wound Care Wash or Gel on our Inks Lake trip…at least for the dogs. I was taking a photo of Tiki in her cute birthday bandana…and stepped back into a fire ant mound! I quickly put the products to work on ME and I’m happy to say that they did a great job of making the ant bites feel much better (and I didn’t have to worry about the dogs licking the gel from my feet…it’s perfectly safe for them!)
I know that these travel-sized products will now have a permanent place on our packing list!
