Review: Kurgo Cargo Cape

We love traveling with Irie and Tiki. In the summer, we try to take them swimming at least once a week. We love to head to the state parks and the constant level lakes (especially great during our ongoing drought) and let the swim.

Of course, swimming dogs means muddy paws and wet dogs upon return to the car. And besides the mud, there’s the loose fur. Look closely and you’ll see plenty of Tiki hair…some some Irie hair, too…in the back of my Jeep:

But no more! I just tried out the Kurgo Cargo Cape, a great way to protect the back of your car from muddy dogs (or two-legged kids) or even messy cargo, whether that means you’re hauling gardening supplies, firewood, or trash (which, living in the country, we do although usually in the pickup).

This car liner is a universal fit, so you don’t have to order one especially for your make and model. (My Jeep is nearly 15 years old so I was really glad to see this because I figured I’d never find a liner for a car that old.) It’s made to be used in SUVs, station wagons, and mini vans. The liner even has a zippered split section so you can use it with one seat up and one down:

or you can use it with the rear seat up to protect the back of that seat:

We keep the rear seat completely folded down in the Jeep, though, so both girls have plenty of room to stretch out on our trips. John spread out the Cargo Cape and installed it in just minutes. Wide strips of hook and loop fasteners secure the cape to the floor:

The waterproof liner also has two handy pockets, great for a bottle of water and any small items you don’t want rolling around the back of the car:

A bumper guard folds down and covers the latch, which I often worry about the dogs tripping on. The guard also makes it super easy to sweep out the back of the car. When not in use, the bumper guard can be folded up and secured:

We are all set for our next day trip with the dogs! A big paws up for the Kurgo Cargo Cape!

Here’s a look at our Kurgo Cargo Cape, all set for this week’s day trip!
