Autumn is one of my favorite times of the year–and there’s nothing more special than sharing it with the whole family. John and I love to plan fall getaways with Irie and Tiki. Life is a Journey that’s best enjoyed with family, and there’s no better time to hit the road than the first few weeks of autumn. When our dogs are along, even the simplest getaway takes on an extra layer of fun and adventure!

Leaf Peeping

Texas might not come to mind when you think of leaf peeping–but we have some pretty fall color in October and November AND it’s usually still plenty warm for some dog wading, too! One of our favorite places to go with Irie and Tiki is Guadalupe River State Park, between San Antonio and Austin. The riverbank is lined with tall cypress trees that turn red after the first cold nights. The park is dog-friendly and perfect for a day of picnicking, trail hiking, and splashing around in the cold waters of the Guadalupe River.

Pumpkin Patching

Every year we visit the dog-friendly pumpkin patch at Elgin Christmas Tree Farm (and again when the holiday calendar changes!) Irie and Tiki love to walk among the pumpkins and the fall decorations which make the perfect backdrop for autumn photos. The pumpkin patch challenges visitors–two-legged and four-legged alike–with several mazes…

…and they even have farm animals that Irie and Tiki can’t resist meeting…

Beach Combing

If you just think of beach getaways with your dog during the summer months, you’re missing some of the best times for sandy fun! We love taking Irie and Tiki to the beach every October when temperatures are lower and the crowds are lighter. The sand is cooler on sensitive paws, too, so we get in long, long beach walks (and Irie works in plenty of rolling in the sand!) And it’s a sure sign of autumn when those sand castles turn to sand pumpkins!

#sponRegardless of where we’re headed on our fall getaway, we know it’s important, when it comes to treat time, to treat them well. Irie and Tiki love True Chews® Dog Treats, 100% natural, made in the USA treats. Pet parents can relax knowing that the wholesome treats are made with premium cuts of meat as the #1 ingredient–and no artificial flavors, no artificial colors, and no meat by-products.

Irie and Tiki are crazy about the Premium Jerky Chews (which I loved for tearing into smaller training treats for our trips, too). You won’t find them at the grocery store; they’re sold at PetSmart, Petco, your neighborhood pet store and Chewy.com (or check the Store Locator to find a store near you).

  • Beautiful dogs and photos. It looks like they enjoyed the pumpkin farm!

  • Abi

Our Pittie mix, Georgia, loves to go to the lake. She wades and explores, but most of all rolls around and gets herself filthy, and likes it that way! Great photos.
