Dog-Friendly Lampasas, Texas

Share with fellow dog lovers!

The small town of Lampasas was first known for its mineral springs that many believed had healing properties. Today the mineral springs health spas are gone but travelers come to this town as a jumping off point to the large, wild state park nearby.

Dog-Friendly Lampasas Activities and Attractions

Colorado Bend State Park. This largely undeveloped park above the Highland Lakes chain is located along a canyon of the Colorado River and offers 32 miles of trails. Ask Fido to put that keen eyesight to work to try to help you spot some of the 155 species found in the park, including golden-cheeked warblers, black-capped vireos, and bald eagles. Info: follow US 183 north to Lampasas, turn west on FM 580 for 24 miles to Bend; (325) 628-3240; www.tpwd.state.tx.us.

Hanna Springs Sculpture Garden. We love strolling this garden in Campbell Park with our dogs; take the loop walk through the sculptures, which change from year to year. 501 E. North Ave. Free.

Dog-Friendly Dining

Storm’s. Family-owned and operated since 1950, this drive-in was a favorite stop of Elvis Presley when he was stationed at nearby Fort Hood. The Lampasas drive-thru is the original but today Storm’s has expanded with locations in Hamilton and Burnet. You and your dog can drive up for breakfast, lunch, and dinner; the eatery serves everything from breakfast tacos to chicken sandwiches but the tried and true remains most popular: the Storm’s Special, a 100 percent Texas beef burger with three patties and French fries. Along with dining in your car, Storm’s also has dog-friendly patio dining. Info: 201 N. Key Ave.; www.stormsrestaurants.com.
