Making Your Shelter Dog Feel at Home

Are you adopting a dog from a shelter? Bringing any dog to a new home is a big change, and it’s especially a major change for a shelter dog who may have been contained primarily in a small kennel for weeks or longer.

One way you can make his transition home just a little easier is to take an old towel with you to the adoption. Just before leaving, visit his former kennel and wipe down the surfaces. When you get home, put that old towel on his new bed, a way to help indicate to him that this bed is all his.
