Buckling Up Your Dog

As you head off for Halloween fun (or anytime, for that matter), don’t forget to buckle up your dog! While it’s second nature to make sure every person in your car is in a seat belt or safety seat, we can’t forget about buckling up our dogs, both for their safety and for ours.

According to Christina Selter, spokesperson for Bark Buckle UP, a dog safety program, “In the event of an accident, an unrestrained pet can escape and be hit by another vehicle, cause another collision, or attack emergency crews trying to reach an injured party. It only takes a few minutes to safeguard your pet and by properly securing them, you are protecting yourself, your passengers, and your pet from injury, not to mention protecting other drivers and first responders trying to help.”

You might not realize just how much force your dog would have if he were sent flying by a car accident. Driving just 35 mph, a 60-pound dog without a restraint will have the impact force of 2,700 pounds! Follow the example of Setler’s dog, Betty (photo, above, secured with a Pet Buckle tether) and buckle up for a safe Halloween!
