Uncooked beef bones can be a great source of calcium for your dog. If you use knuckle bones, which have soft tissue as well, you’ll also have a good teeth cleaner for your dog.
It may take some hunting around to find fresh bones; many stores receive their meats pre-cut and no longer have bones. If you can find dog bones from a local butcher, though, you’ll find they’re an economical treat of about $1 per pound.
Never, however, used cooked bones which are far more likely to splinter into dangerous bits. Also, make sure the bone is wider than your dog’s mouth to keep him from putting the entire bone in his mouth. Any time you give a dog a bone, always supervise his chewing.
