Planning for Your Dog During Halloween Parties

Planning a Halloween event at your house? For nervous dogs, this can be a good time for doggie day care if it’s a daytime kids’ party or a crate in a quiet back room, if it’s an evening event. If your dog is not so nervous and he’ll be participating in the fun, keep it to a minimum and only with supervision. You might bring your dog out in costume to enjoy the early activities but then give him a quiet place to escape. If he’ll be staying for the party, make sure to:

  • have a collar and ID on him at all times. The comings and goings of guests can spook even the calmest dogs.
  • keep an eye out for chocolate candies. Make sure he doesn’t head for the candy dish, make sure no children decide to share their candy with him, and make sure no one drops or tosses candy where he can get itkeep an eye on alcoholic drinks at adult parties. Thirsty dogs can start sampling…
  • understand that he may get frightened if guests are in costume.
