Barking at the Phone

Does your dog go crazy every time the phone rings? While you might want your dog to bark to alert you that the phone is ringing , you don’t want him to go wild with each ring. With some training, though, you can get your dog remain calm when the phone rings.

The best way to overcome this barking is to have a member of your family ring your telephone at prearranged times and at five- or ten-minute intervals.

When the bell rings, don’t jump up and run to the phone the way most of us anwer the phone. Sit back and relax and calmly give your dog a treat (a really good treat, something he really enjoys).

After a while, your dog will hear the phone ring and feel excited and happy, associating the sound with a treat instead of something your rushed movement.
