Storing Photos of Your Dog in Case of Emergency

Yesterday we talked about using pet safety decals to show firefighters there are dogs in your house, just in case you were gone when a fire broke out.

Today we talk about a related problem: if a fire should break out and your dog runs away during firefighting, you need to make sure you have a good photo of your dog to help track him down. That means having a photo stored outside of your house, since you may or may not still have photos that were stored inside your house. (This applies not only to fire damage but floods, tornadoes, and hurricanes, too.)

Consider storing a good photo of your dog someplace such as:

  • in a safety deposit box at your bank
  • at a friend’s house
  • online at a photo sharing site such as Flickr
  • online in a webmail account such as gmail, yahoo, or hotmail (not in a regular email account that would have downloaded to your computer, probably in your house)
  • at your office
