Winter Dog Walking Dangers

In our last tip we covered some winter outdoor dog tips from the American Humane Association. Even if your dog lives inside during the winter months, though, there are special dangers this time of year when you take him for a walk.

The American Humane Association recommends keeping an eye out for powerful salt and chemicals used to keep sidewalks free of ice. Clean your dog’s paws after your outing to prevent his pads from becoming dry and irritated.

How will you know if he has ingested these chemicals? Signs of ingestion include excessive drooling, vomiting and depression. Keep an eye out for these symptoms and call your vet if any of these occur.
