Keeping Raisin Goodies Away From Your Dog

Does the holiday season mean fruitcake…or raisin-dotted cookies…in your house? If so, keep these holiday desserts away from your dog because raisins and sultanas are no treat for canines. Like grapes, these can cause kidney failure and even death in dogs; as dried grapes, raisins have a more concentrated dosage of the very substances that make dogs sick.
With that in mind:
- keep boxes of raisins and sultanas well out of reach of your dog
- keep an extra careful eye on your dog when baking with raisins
- never leave out plates of cookies that include raisins
- if children are eating raisin cookies, make sure they finish the cookie and don’t leave it lying around for your dog to grab
- make sure children and guests realize they absolutely cannot give your dog anything that includes raisins
