A new poll from the Associated Press (www.ap.org) and Petside.com (www.petside.com) taken December 3-8, 2008 in phone interviews with 1,129 randomly chosen pet owners showed that 85% aren’t cutting pet care expenses due to the economy. The poll did show that lower-income pet owners are twice as likely to have had to make cuts than higher-income owners.

Those pet lovers who are making cuts, though, are having to make drastic ones:

  • 54% of those making pet expenditure cuts they’re waiting on routine visits to the veterinarian
  • 21% said they’re putting off vet visits for serious problem
  • 27% are considering giving up their pet due to financial difficulties
