Man-made holiday decorations come with many dangers to dogs…but did you realize that live Christmas trees also present a real hazard?
Your tree’s needles pose a risk to your dog in the form of an intestinal danger if swallowed and a painful annoyance if stuck in his paw. Minimize the number of loose needles by shaking the tree before bringing it in the house and by vacuuming frequently.
As a real tree, you’ll need the trunk to rest in water to prevent it from drying out too quickly. That water, though, can be all too tempting to dogs. However, this can’t be a holiday water dish! It’s likely that the tree grew with the help of fertilizers, chemicals that very well might wind up in the tree’s water. You’ll need to find a way to cover the tree’s water to prevent your dog from taking that tempting drink!
