Making Liver Dog Treats

We’re always on the lookout for dog treats that are both healthy and budget-friendly (all too often they’re either one or the other!) One of the easiest and most popular dog treats we’ve found is liver. Selling for about $1.86 per pound at our local grocery store for beef liver (add about another dollar per pound for calf liver), liver makes nutritious snack that dogs absolutely love. We cut it into small pieces and use it as training treats; it’s a strong motivator!

To make liver treats, preheat your oven to 325 degrees. Place a single layer of thawed liver on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake for 30 minutes. We like to turn the liver about five minutes before it’s done just to make sure both sides are slightly crispy but it’s not necessary.

When done, allow the liver to cool then cut into treat size and refrigerate. That’s it…an easy, inexpensive treat that’s sure to fetch some real attention!
