More Tips for Selecting the Obama Family Dog
Recently our contest asked for your advice for the Obama family on selecting a dog for the White House. Hundreds of you replied with your tips! Yesterday we covered the first half of your advice for the Obamas and today we look at more of your tips for the First Family as they make plans to get their new dog (which sounds like will be a Portuguese Water Dog) in April:- Attempt to pick a dog that has a calm demeanor and is good with children.
- Dogs are like people-- some are calm others are not.
- Make sure he is cute!!!!
- Obedience training is best for the owner and his dog as a team.
- Definitely do the research into breeds...I’m not thinking they want a dog that needs tons of exercise especially since they won't want the White House all torn up.
- Be sure to give the puppy lots of hugs and kisses.
- Get a puppy that is potty trained
- Adopt! Rescue and shelter dogs make the best pets and you can choose from a multitude of animals.
- Please try to find a shelter dog, or a rescue dog!
- Love your pet as he or she will be your best friend that will show you respect and honor.
- I don't have any advice other than to love the puppy and spend lots of time with him/her.
- Treat him like he is your new best friend.
- I would suggest they pick one from the dog pound or animal agency. I think by adopting a pet, they will encourage other people to do so.
- One that does not chew cell phones, passports, credit cards.
- Play with the dog for a while before you decide on it.
- Get a rescue puppy. Or get you new puppy fixed! Be a responsible pet owner. Above all, LOVE your puppy as part of the family.
- Adopt a puppy from the local animal shelter. Mixed breed puppies make excellent pets too.
- Enjoy and cherish!
- He is correct pound puppies are the best and they love you for it
- Choose a puppy that has been abandoned and needs a good home, and make sure he/she is always well taken care of :)
- Be sure to get to know it. Let all of the family be with it. It has to be a good fit for everyone.
- Make sure both girls get equal time to play with the puppy, that way the puppy doesn't cling to one over the other causing one of the girls gets their feelings hurt.
- Were they going to get a puppy anyway? Or is this just because we think we need a dog in the White House? It better be a dog from a pound. If not, that would set an awful example for the rest of us! So, go to the pound and let the girls pick out their puppy! Same as you would if you weren't in the White House.
- Watch The Dog Whisperer.
- Make sure everyone in the family agrees with the choice since you all have to live with it.
- I think you should choose a boy-dog so your daddy will not feel out-numbered. Boys are chummy to all and like to protect their little girls. Make sure you tell this to your daddy, too.
- Buy with love in your heart.
- Take good care of it and train it!
- Be sure to have a vet check any puppy before purchasing it. There is nothing so sad than buying a sick puppy for a child and lose it.
- THE LOVING PUPPY SHOULD BE MULTI-COLOURED; JUST LIKE THE WORLD!!!
- Find the dog that needs the most love.
- Let him be a puppy.. i.e. don't shelter him or have too many rules. :)
- Don't get a big dog. You still need to rule in the White House, not the dog. :)
- Of course choosing between the hypoallergenic dogs, go check a few out and the puppy that attracts you and your family take it home!
- Select a puppy that is known for getting along with children.
- Do a trial stay of a day or two to see if everyone is compatible. Look for a puppy that is calm and gentle.
- Let the puppy pick you!! They don’t make mistakes!
- Get a dog that is very good with kids, one with a kind heart.
- Buy a puppy you and the girls fall in love with...forget anyone else's advice.
- Pick a puppy that fits your personality if you are laid back then don’t pick a breed that is hyper.
- They should (very publicly) go to a local animal shelter and get their pup there.
- Pick the one who is the most excited, the most crazy, and the most hyper. This puppy will never cease to make you laugh and smile.
- Go to a shelter and look at the dogs available for adoption, then let your heart guide you.
- ENJOY! I Love all animals- this will be a life changing experience.
