Looking for Alternatives to Dog Tags

Dog tags are a great way to identify your dog and help others return him to you if he should ever get lost. However, traditional dog tags, which hang by a small ring from the dog collar, can sometimes be hazardous.
Does your dog routinely stick his head through your fence? A dog tag can easily get snagged. Does he like to wrestle with another dog? The tag can quickly get pulled off and lost. Do you have floor registers or vents he could snag that tag inside? Dogs have received bad burns from hot floor registers. Or maybe you (or your dog) would just rather not hear the jingle-jangle of the dog tag.
You’ll find several other options for identifying your dog on his collar:
Dog Tags that Slide Onto the Collar. These personalized dog tags have slots on each end; your dog’s collar slides onto the tag (see photo, above). You’ll also find tags with C-shaped slots at each end for collars with plastic buckles.
Woven Personalized Dog Collars. You can order personalized dog collars with your name and phone number woven right into the collar itself.
Make Your Own Personalized Dog Collar. For a budget solution, purchase a light-color (solid color) woven nylon dog collar. With a permanent marker such as a Sharpie, write in large letters your last name and full phone number with area code.
