Getting Your Dog to Wear Clothing

Do you have problems getting your dog to wear clothes? We’ve often heard from readers that their dogs roll and pull at their clothes to get them off. (And we can say firsthand we’ve had similar problems…we had one dog once who took off his sweater and buried it in the yard while we weren’t looking!)

So we checked with a dog clothing expert, Kim Kenney over at KimPup which specializes in small dog clothes as well as dog collar charms. According to Kim,

“Be sure that the dog clothing is not restrictive and or awkward in any way, else I can see why the pooch wants the clothing off! Sleeves with too tight of a shoulder and shirts with not enough room in the neck area always seem to be the culprit, so watch for this.

In dressing your dogs, you would have to start from when they are just pups, to get them used to it, and once again being sure that the clothes are not cumbersome in any way.

And a final note: if your dog does protest too much….DO NOT make them wear it.”
