Pool Safety for Dogs: Knowing When to Say When

Dogs and pools can be a great summer combination, perfect for getting exercise, cooling down, and having fun all at once. But safety comes first. Dogs, like young children, don’t recognize when they get tired in the pool. Stephanie M. Colman of Caninestein Dog Training, is proving us a full week of tips about swimming pool safety with your dog. Today:
Know When to Say When
Dedicated swimmers often forget they’re dogs, not ducks! Keep a close eye on your dog and be sure to get him out of the pool for a break as soon as you see signs of physical fatigue or over-stimulation.
Watch the rear. The lower the rear in an accomplished swimmer, the more tired he is.
