Getting Your Dog Accustomed to Your Child’s Costume

Halloween can be a scary time for dogs. People look different, they’re coming to the door all night yelling “Trick or Treat,” and the whole atmosphere is just downright spooky.

You’ll be taking extra precautions with your dog on Halloween but one aspect of the holiday you may overlook is your own child’s costume! Spooky hats and masks can change your child’s silhouette and make a member of the family suddenly scary.

Today’s tip comes from Bark Busters dog training company:

  • Have your dog get used to costumes.
  • Your dog may regard his family members as strangers once they don their Halloween costumes.
  • Before the kids put them on, allow your dog to scent the costumes.
  • Keep masks off while your dog is around.

With a little extra preparations, Halloween can be a far less scary event for your dog–and a fun and special holiday for your child.
