On Veteran’s Day, thoughts across the US turn to our military members, among whose ranks are found many fellow dog lovers. When military personnel are deployed, sometimes suddenly, pets can be left homeless. However, soldiers will find several organizations that can help arrange foster homes for their pets:
Guardian Angels for Soldiers’ Pet Guardian Angels for Soldier’s Pet is an all-volunteer 501 (c) (3) non-profit military support organization supporting military service members, veterans and their pets through their “Foster Home” and “Military Pet Assistance” programs. You’ll find special sections on their website both for those looking for a foster home and for those who would like to volunteer to foster.
NetPets.Org’s MilitaryPetsFOSTER Project is part of this all-volunteer 501(c)3 organization and helps find foster homes for pets of all kinds. You’ll find a special section on military fostering.
Operation Noble Foster Operation Noble Foster specializes in locating foster homes for the cats of military personnel. Their site includes resources for military members looking for a foster home and for cat lovers who would like to foster; you’ll also find tips on fostering a military cat.
Tips for Deploying Military You’ll find a good article on the American Humane Association site with tips especially for deploying soldiers including making a pet care agreement, an important written document whether the pet rehomes with a foster family or with the soldier’s relatives.
