Weighing Your Dog

When was the last time you weighed your dog? If you’re like many people, it might have been the last time your dog was at the vet’s office. However, if you’re on a once-a-year vet schedule, you just might be surprised to find out your dog’s weight varies through the year, especially if he’s still in adolescence.

Weighing a small dog is fairly easy but, for larger dogs, it’s a multi-step process. Get out your household scale and weigh yourself. Step off, pick up your dog, and reweigh the two of you. Subtract the two weights to obtain your dog’s weight.

Getting an accurate and up-to-date weight for your dog helps you determine if your dog is gaining or losing weight. It’s a factor that can influence not only his diet but also important medication such as heartworm preventative which is sized by the dog’s weight!
