Going Along for the Ride–To the Vet

Today our dog Irie had her annual shots at our local vet’s office. And so our dog Tiki came along.

Why?

In the past, our previous dogs were frightened to go to the vet’s office. It was terribly stressful for them, and it was also stressful for us.

We were determined that Irie and Tiki wouldn’t have the same fear of the vet’s office. After their adoptions two years ago (Irie) and 18 months ago (Tiki), we’ve always brought both dogs to each appointment. The dog receiving treatment is calmed by the presence of her buddy; the dog not receiving treatment learns that the vet’s office isn’t just a place where you get shots…it’s also a fun place where you’re petted and fed treats!

If you don’t have two dogs to have an “off” appointment, you can take your dog in with you anytime you need to drop by the vet’s office, whether to pick up flea or heartworm preventative or to make an upcoming appointment. Those visits can be especially helpful for your dog since you’re more relaxed yourself…and a relaxed pet parent means a more relaxed dog!
