Stopping Leash Pulling

Leash pulling is one of the most common problems on dog walks. If your dog isn’t trained to walk calmly on leash, he can pull (choking himself on his collar and even causing throat damage). Along with safety problems for your dog, a walk that’s spent like a tug of war contest is tiring for the dog walker as well (and that means you’re all too likely to cut the walk short).
One solution is to try a change of equipment. The HALTI, a head collar invented by UK animal psychologist Dr. Roger Mugford, is a favorite with many trainers. Resembling a horse collar, the HALTI works by turning the dog’s head toward you when he pulls. There’s no pressure on his throat, no metal against his skin, and the point of steering is away from his eyes.
“Since its creation, the HALTI head collar has been approved by veterinarians and trainers worldwide,” said Dr. Mugford. “It is also recognized as the product that established the headcollar lead category. I’m sure that American pet owners will be just as pleased with the results when they try it for walking or training their dog.”
