Making Your Dog a Star

Since today is St. Patrick’s Day, we thought today’s tip would be one that’s just fun. No safety tips, no hazards to watch out for, just a tip with one more way to have a little fun with your dog.

Recently, during a half-price sale, we went online at Walgreens.com (you can also order these at local Walgreens stores) and ordered a “Dog Fancy” cover with a shot of our dogs for a couple of dollars. Like most fake covers, all the text is preset so you really need to shoot your photo with that in mind; if we’d been shooting this specifically for this cover, we would have left for room on the left side of the shot for the text. The final result, though, is fun; we enjoy reading Dog Fancy every month so it was nice to see our dogs (both mixes of mixed breeds) on this “cover.” The finished photo is a printed, high-quality (glossy or matte) photo that you can have mailed to you or pick up at your local Walgreens about an hour later.

Another option–and a free one–is MagMyPic.com. This service makes fake magazine covers you can post to your Facebook profile, tweet to your Twitter followers, and more. They offer a “Pet Fancy” cover but it put a big emblem right at about the spot where our dog Irie’s face is on the photo so we opted for this comic book cover instead. There’s an option to get a high-res version, to order a print (with or without a frame) or just to use the free download on your site like this:
