Identifying Dog Food Preservatives

The past several weeks, canine nutrition expert Tracie Hotchner has been discussing meat meal, quality animal proteins, grains, vegetables, protein, and more in your dog’s food. This week, Tracie examines the preservatives used in dog food:

Natural preservatives are the healthiest way to keep dry food fresh. Vitamin E is a natural preservative referred to as “mixed tocopherols” when used as a preservative; some foods will also use vitamin C, usually as ascorbic acid or ascorbyl palmitate or from extracts of herbs like clove, sage or rosemary.
