Today we’re bringing you the fifth and final part in the Hot Spot Tele-Training Series by Alecia Evans of Walk In Sync. Filled with tips from this holistic dog trainer, the series has included housetraining, loose leash walking, teaching your dog to come when called and separation anxiety.
In this week’s call, we discuss a big problem that sadly lands many dogs in shelters: inappropriate barking.
Dogs are not natural barkers in the wild. Yet in our homes they have a tendency to become chronic barkers. Barking can signal many things: Joy, Excitement, Fear, Anger, Frustration, Aggression, Protection and Warning. A dog barking for no reason indicates an imbalance of energy.
On this call, Alecia will share with you the range of dog barks and how and why they can turn into chronic barking syndrome. You will learn to identify your dog’s vocal range and the best timing for corrections and the types of corrections if any that each type requires. This call discusses:
- What are the three main reasons that dogs bark?
- What should you do when your dog starts barking? Do you recommend shake cans or water bottles?
- Can you speak more about the physical stress that dogs may be carrying in their own bodies which may exacerbate why they will keep barking?
- What are the best ways to check to see if barking is coming from the dog’s body being out of balance?
If you’ve missed any of the previous calls, you’ll find recordings at the above links.
