Southwest Airlines Says All Aboard to Small Dogs, Cats
May 31, 2009 by Paris Permenter and John Bigley

Fido now has the “Freedom to Fly” on Southwest Airlines as long as he’s small enough to fit in an underseat carrier. The popular low-fare carrier is now allowing passengers to bring small cats and dogs in the aircraft cabin for a special “pet fare” of $75 each way. (Pets are not permitted in cargo.)
All pets must be in a carrier that fits under the airplane seat, and the carrier will count as the Customer’s carry-on bag. Customers can now purchase tickets for their small cats and dogs for travel beginning June 17, 2009.
