For the new Canine Ambassador at a hotel dubbed “The Castle on the Hill,” life is a Cinderella story.

Edie’s Tale

Once upon a time, a puppy was found wandering the streets. First placed in an Ohio animal shelter, the boxer/Labrador retriever mix soon found herself selected for training as a service dog in Circle Tail, Inc.’s Inmate/Canine Educational Program.

Helping one individual was not enough for the dog dubbed Edie, however, and in the next chapter in her life the charismatic dog felt right at home putting smiles on the faces of those far from their own homes as the Canine Ambassador for the Fairmont Pittsburgh Hotel.

For five years Edie greeted guests at the luxury retreat, with her position at the prestigious hotel transforming her into a high-profile pooch who graced magazine covers and used her celebrity status to help others. At her retirement paw-ty in October 2016, Edie asked only for donations to help dogs and cats at The Western Pennsylvania Humane Society and Animal Rescue League Shelter & Wildlife Center who are longing to live happily ever after with a forever pet parent of their very own.

Packing her bags in late 2016, the six-year-old dog who had greeted so many travelers made a cross-country journey with Fairmont PR manager Julie Abramovic-Kunes and her husband all the way from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Berkeley, California, where the sociable Edie now makes visitors welcome as the Canine Ambassador at a fairy tale retreat, The Claremont Club & Spa, A Fairmont Hotel.

Like Edie says on her Instagram account: “Choose a job you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.”

The Claremont Club & Spa’s Pet Policy

Travelers and their tail-wagging chums might get to meet Edie as she promenades in the lobby of her new luxury workplace. The Claremont Club & Spa is a pet-friendly venue for dogs of any breed and size, with guests paying a $99 non-refundable fee for Fido’s stay. (Pets are also welcome at Edie’s previous place of employment, the Fairmont Pittsburgh, for $25 a night.)
