World Dog Surfing Championships Benefit Dogs in Need

Share with fellow dog lovers!

Rad Rovers the world over are stoked to find out which canine will be The Big Kahuna at a surfing event held during the dog days of summer in support of totally tubular tail-waggers in need.

On August 5th, tails will wag on the waves as dogs who dream of being a canine version of Kelly Slater step on to their boards at Linda Mar Beach for the second annual World Dog Surfing Championships, hosted by TasteTV.

Fans of sports and Spots will witness a pack of “Moondoggies” howl “Cowabunga!” as they shred the surf in exhibitions and heats. Canine contestants will compete in heats according to their size (small medium, large and very large dogs), and surfing heats for tandem dogs and tandem human/dog combos will also wow the crowd. Following the four-legged contestants, humans will hang ten during a solo surfing event.

The event’s other activities will also make a big splash with attendees, including:

  • A Pet Wellness Fair: Pet parents can learn how to give their dog a check up, ask canine-related health questions to a vet, get tips for keeping their pal with paws in tip top shape, and work on firming up their physiques during Yoga and Pilates sessions.
  • Mobile Pet Adoptions: Adorable adoptables will be riding a wave of excitement when they find forever pet parents to love during the surfing championships!
  • Costume Contest: Donning attire, pups and their pet parents can aspire to win an award for their wardrobe! Contest categories include Dog Costumes, Human Costumes, and Dog and Human mixed tandem.
  • Yappy Hour After Event: Drink a toast to fun in the sun with our four-legged friends!

A day of play with a higher purpose, a portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA and Rocket Dog Rescue.

When: August 5, 2017 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Where: Linda Mar Beach at Highway One and Linda Mar Boulevard in Pacifica, California
