If the clip clop of horses hooves echoing from its many equestrian farms is the steady heartbeat of Fauquier County, Virginia, then its network of vineyards is the area’s life’s blood. Home to 16 wineries in all, eight vineyard venues invite visitors and their canine companions to drink in the heady atmosphere. Following are a list of Fauquier County’s Fido-friendly wine facilities:

Barrel Oak Winery: Frequently referred to by human patrons as BOW, no doubt this venue is thought of as BOW wow WOW by its canine guests. Dog clubs often convene at the wine facility, which is decorated in a dog-pleasing design complete with paw prints and photos of the owners own four-legged friends. www.barreloak.com

Oasis Vineyards– Pawed pals on leashes are welcome to join their owners on a wine tour of one of Virginia’s oldest vineyards. www.oasiswines.net

Marterella Winery– Home to five Fidos, this eight-acre venue allows on the grounds human- and pet-friendly dogs on leashes. www.marterellawines.com

Three Fox Vineyards– A 50-acre estate offering tourists a touch of Tuscany, your fur baby will have room to roam, dog treats to nibble on and a water bowl. www.threefoxvineyards.com

Rogers Ford Farm Winery– Fifty-five acres steeped in Civil War lore is another dog-friendly facility. www.rogersfordwine.com

    Grace-

Thank you for writing about our wineries! BOW also always has dog treats and room for your best friend to roam outside on or off leash. The dogs and kids are welcome even when we have one of our evening musical events. We also regularly hold charitable activities for several of the area rescue organizations such as Golden Retreiver Rescue, Middleburg Humane, Lost Dog and Cat Rescue, and K-9 Lifesavers. In all we've helped raise over $6500 for these great organizations since our opening on May 23rd 2008.

    Cheers-

Brian & Sharon, (loopy) Barley & Justoce the Wonderpuppy!
