San Antonio, Texas is working to be a no-kill city by 2012 and hopes to draw increased attention to the importance of spaying and neutering with this year’s Dog Awareness Week. Through the week, spay/neuter vouchers and “No-Kill 2012” stickers will be distributed.
The festivities kick off on July 5 with “Sunday in the Park” from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM at Pearsall Dog Park, an off-leash park. Events include:
- A “Blessing of the Dogs”
- An Elvis impersonator performing “You Ain’t Nothing But a Hound Dog”
- A dog parade
- A Dog Costume Contest
- A free basic dog training class will be held every hour
- A Dog Agility demonstration
- Free doggy dental supplies
- Dog nail clipping for $5.00 per dog.
- dogs for adoption at a discounted price
- Discounted rabies, vaccinations, and microchipping on-site
- free dog treats, dog toys, and dog food samples for all attending dogs

Monday, July 6, 2009: “Dine With Your Dog at Rob Cary Pet Resort—Hot Dogs for ‘Hot Dogs’”
You and your dog can enjoy hot dogs and beverages for $10 each; profits go to Animal Care Services (ACS) and Responsible Pet Owners Alliance (RPOA).Tuesday, July 7, 2009: “Lucky Dog Pet Adoptions”
Look for discounted pet adoptions from local agencies; dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. Each person adopting will receive two free tickets to River City Cluster of Dog Shows.Wednesday, July 8, 2009: “Dogs Rule” Pedigree Dog Food Kickoff Day
Get a $2.00 discount on every dog show admission with a can of donated Pedigree Dog Food. Today the River City Cluster of Dog Shows begins at the Convention Center.Thursday, July 9, 2009: “Seniors Day at the Dog Show”
Senior Retirement Centers will be offered a Discount Day at the Dog Show with will be Free Dog Adoptions for Seniors at Animal Care Services.Friday, July 10, 2009: “Westminster Kennel Club Winner — Stump”
