World’s Ugliest Dog Contest, Petaluma, CA, June 26, 2009

Later televised on Animal Planet, the World’s Ugliest Dog Contest at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, California always receives a lot of attention. This year celebrity judges and new prizes (a modeling contract and another $1,000) are sure to draw even more attention to this popular festival.

This year’s event will also feature the first annual “Ugly is the New Beautiful” Doggie Fashion Show with the latest in dog fashions.

Celebrity Judge: Karen “Doc” Halligan, DVM will be sitting in the judges’ stand this year, a name well-known to Animal Planet viewers; she has appeared on Animal Rescue 911, Dog Tales, Groomer Has it, Dogs 101, and Cats 101 and is currently developing her own syndicated show. She will sign her book Doc Halligan’s What Every Pet Owner Should Know: Prescriptions for Happy, Healthy Cats and Dogs for fans after the contest.

Prizes: This year’s World’s Ugliest Dog winner receives a modeling contract from House Of Dog, a manufacturer of sophisticated dog accessories favored by celebrities. House Of Dog will award the contract and another bonus check for $1,000 in an official paw-signing ceremony. This is in addition to the $1,000 prize money and trophy awarded by the Sonoma-Marin Fair. House Of Dog will also provide the winner with a prize package of collars, leashes, bowls, toys and a carrier; a professional photo shoot with the Official World’s Ugliest Dog Event Photographer Grace Chon of Shine Pet Photos is also part of the prize package.
