Shadow and Sunny, two Red & White Siberian Huskies in wheel position, enjoy pulling the Pennsylvania Sled Dog Club’s wheeled cart along with the Club’s trained lead dogs at a recent Tails On The Trails Husky Hike.

Tails Of The Tundra, a Siberian Husky rescue group, will hold its seventh annual “Tails On The Trails” Husky Hike, an event where dogs of all breeds, shapes and sizes are welcome to participate in the full day of festivities.

“The event is open to anyone who would like to participate,” says Lee Wlodarczyk, event chairperson. “Dog walkers will be offered the choice of two hike distances – one longer and the other shorter – both on well-marked paved trails through the park. We will have foster dogs that are available for adoption at the hike, so if anyone does not have a dog to walk, we will be happy to lend you one!”

The hike will be followed by a picnic lunch. The event will celebrate AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day and offering fun and informative activities for dogs and their owners including a scavenger hunt for the kids, the Canine Good Citizen test for the dogs, and a silent auction for the adults. Last year’s hike attracted over 200 Siberian Huskies, many of which had been adopted from Tails Of The Tundra.

The Pennsylvania Sled Dog Club will also be in attendance with a wheeled cart and several of their lead dogs. Husky owners can hook up their dogs in the “wheel” position behind the leaders and allow them to enjoy the activity for which they are bred. Other events will include “scooter-joring” – Huskies fitted with special harnesses and pulling their owners on scooters – and other doggie games.

A special highlight of the day is the Alumni Review, during which people who have adopted dogs from Tails Of The Tundra walk their dogs around a ring as the Master of Ceremonies narrates special tributes to the dogs that their adopters have composed.
