Every year the Key Underwood Coon Dog Memorial Graveyard, the world’s only coonhound cemetery, hosts the Coon Dog Cemetery Labor Day Celebration. The event is held at the site where, since 1937, local hunters have laid their loyal hunting companions to rest.
The Labor Day celebration, held by the Tennessee Valley Coon Hunter’s Association, includes bluegrass music, dancing, barbecue, and a liar’s contest.
Admission: Free
When: September 5, 2009, 1-4pm
Where: Coon Dog Cemetery, Cherokee, Alabama. Directions: 7 miles West of Tuscumbia on US Highway 72, turn left on Alabama Hwy 247 and travel 12.8 miles, turn right (5 miles) and follow signs to attraction.
