The foreclosure crisis has created a crisis among pets — and far too many are winding up in shelters. To help feed the growing number of shelter animals, the first annual Brooklyn Pup Crawl is planned for Saturday, a chance to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge with your four-legged buddy. The moonlit stroll will offer an unbeatable view of the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline.

The event begins with refreshments for you and your dog at City Hall Park then at 6:45pm participants will assemble for the walk beginning at 7pm. Along with a doggie bag of treats for your dog, participants will receive an illuminated dog leash for safety and to make a stunning visual impact as they all proceed across the bridge.

When: Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009. Registration begins at 5:30pm; the walk begins at 7pm.

Where: City Hall Park, New York City [directions]

Admission: free but they ask that you make a small donation when registering online
