Buda (pronounced b-you-da), Texas will once again be the setting on April 24-25 for the annual Weiner Dog Races, now in its 13th year. Buda, which calls itself “The Weiner Dog Capital of Texas,” draws contestants and onlookers not only from across Texas but from neighboring states who come to watch these petite racers give it their all as some charge to the finish line, others head off to sniff a trail, and some show more interest in their motivating squeaky toys rather than the finish line.

Held in conjunction with the Buda Country Fair, the event also includes live music, food ranging from (of course) hot dogs to barbecue, crafts, and more.

On Saturday at 9AM, the dogs compete for the title of Best Dressed Weiner Dog then races are held at 10AM and 2PM. On Sunday, races are held at 10AM with quarterfinals, semi-finals, and finals starting at 3:30PM.

    I am wondering if this is for “FULL BREED” doxies or is it also open to CHIWEENIES???? I have the fastest chiweenie in the kingdom. If it makes any difference she was SUPPOSED to be a full mini weenie….

    I saw some doxies at the event last year that didn’t look like purebred dachshunds. I think as long as they’re a mix of a tiny breed and a doxie, they can probably enter….but I’m not sure. It is a fun event!

    It is required, when you register, that you show proof of your breed through papers. If your dog does not have papers- then your dog will not race.

    I am headed to the Chihuahua Races in Hillsboro at the outlet mall this Saturday, first of May, tons of fun last year and they give big prizes too
