Pooch Parade, Dallas, TX, April 4, 2010

More than 100 dogs are expected to participate in the Turtle Creek Association’s Annual Easter in the Park Pooch Parade on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010 at Lee Park on Turtle Creek Boulevard. This popular annual event brings together families, children, dogs and Easter bonnets for an entertaining afternoon of music and picnics.

The fun begins with the Parade of Adoptable Dogs at 12:45 p.m. followed by the Pooch Parade and Costume Contest at 1 p.m. The Dallas Symphony Orchestra takes the stage at 3 p.m. to perform light classical music and pop favorites .

Photo-Bunny-ears-poochThe beloved family-oriented celebration along the banks of Turtle Creek is expected to attract 6,000-8,000 attendees. Dogs of all breeds and sizes will make their way down the parade promenade adorned in Easter bonnets, boas, tutus, themed outfits and some will sport custom hair-cuts and even dye jobs.

The competition is fierce as the Celebrity Grand Marshals convene to award Best Dressed Dog, Best Owner/Pet Look-Alike, Best Little Dog and Best Big Dog.

Celebrity Judges include Angela Hunt, Dallas City Council Member; Wayne Smith, Dallas Park and Recreation Board Member; Mat McBriar, Dallas Cowboys Punter; and Tim Miller, publisher of GrandLuxe magazine. Jan Strimple will serve as the Parade’s Grand Marshall and comedian Paul Williams will be the Master of Ceremonies.

Where: Held at Lee Park, off Lemmon Avenue, Dallas, Texas

Fee: Dog registration for the Pooch Parade begins at 11:00 a.m. with a $10 registration fee for each category dogs enter in the Costume Contest. For those who join Turtle Creek Association as a member now through Easter Sunday, the dog registration fee is waived. The parade and concert are free and open for the public to attend and enjoy. Street parking is free and available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Organizers recommend that guests park away from the park and walk in from a neighboring area.

For  a Paws Cause: Several animal rescue organizations will participate in the Parade of Adoptable Dogs.  A few of these pets will also be entered in the regular competition. All dogs from these groups will be available for adoption. Participating in the parade will be pooches from Dallas Animal Services, Petite PAWS Pet Advocates,  Tzu Zoo Rescue, Metroplex Mutts and Operation Kindness.
