We’re always asking people we meet why they think more families don’t go to shelters to adopt. One answer we get time and time again is that many people are worried that they’ll be overwhelmed at the shelter and find it a depressing experience.
If you know someone who has these worries, here’s the perfect chance to adopt without a shelter visit: the PetSmart Charities Second Chance for Love National Adoption Weekend. The three-day adoption
event is Friday, April 30 – Sunday, May 2 at all 1,149 PetSmart® stores in the United States and Canada. The event, which is sponsored by Hill’s® Science Diet® Brand and PetSmart®, will work with over 2,000 animal welfare agencies to find dogs, cats and other pets a new home. The goal of the event is to find lifelong, loving homes for 18,500 dogs, cats and other pets from shelters and rescue agencies.
When: Friday, April 30 – Sunday, May 2, 2010. Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, April 30 and Saturday, May 1, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 2.
Did You Know? In the U.S., an estimated 8 million dogs and cats enter animal shelters each year, but 4 million never find homes. In Canada, more than 400,000 dogs and cats must be put down because there
aren’t enough homes. During fiscal year 2009, a record 409,613 pets found homes at the PetSmart Charities adoption centers, which are located inside every PetSmart® store. One pet’s life is saved every minute that the PetSmart Charities’ adoption centers are open. PetSmart Charities now provides more than $10
million a year in adoption-reward grants to the thousands of animal-welfare agencies it collaborates with through the in-store adoption program.
Bonus for Adopters: All cat and dog adopters will receive free samples from Hill’s Science Diet Brand and PetSmart®. Also, PetSmart Charities will provide increased adoption-reward grants to all participating shelters and rescue agencies; in fact, all agencies will receive $35 from PetSmart Charities for every pet adopted between April 26-May 2.
