Dog Bowl, Dallas, TX, June 6, 2010

For the second time this year Friends of Fair Park is unleashing a free Dog Bowl event at the Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas, Texas. Taking place June 6 from 1 – 5 pm, pet parents can cheer for their fur babies as they tackle an animal-only agility course and play in a splash pool. Pups can pose for canine caricatures while doggy Dads and Moms listen to the latest tips and advice from trainers, veterinarians and an array of animal experts. Is your dog really a lovebird? As June is the month to say “I do,” Wüf Pet Resort & Spa is staging a Wüf Wedding Chapel for dog duos.

If you’re looking for a forever friend, Greyhound Adoption League, Humane Society of Dallas County, Operation Kindness and other rescue organizations will bring adoptable barking buddies who are hoping to find a home. Affordable vaccinations and microchipping will also be available for pets.

For petite pups, a special gated area on the football field will allow little lap dogs to play in peace while the big dogs take over the turf.

As the Texas temperature rises, canines can stay cool at the misting tent and giant “dip and sip” pools while their human parents partake of refreshments (including beer) while listening to the hot licks of toe-tapping and tail-wagging live tunes.

For those who wish to pamper their pet, a nail-clipping service will perfect a pooch’s “paw”dicure and vendors will be on hand selling pet apparel, dog soaps and provide information on doggy daycares, boarders and much more.

In addition to all the Fido-related fun on the football field, outside the Cotton Bowl a number of dog groups and rescue organizations are holding a family-friendly BYOP (Bring Your Own Picnic) “tail”-gate party starting at noon. No alcohol or grills.

Admission: The Dog Bowl is a free event, with $10 parking available at Gate 11 (Fitzhugh Ave. and Lagow St.), or ride DART’s Green Line to the Fair Park Station (Please note: Non-service animals are allowed on DART only if they are in crates.) Owners will be asked to observe all current City of Dallas Dog Park policies while at Fair Park.
