News that XRock 103.9′s “Givin’ the Dog A Bone ” event is just around the corner is music to the ears of animal lovers. Combining a love of classic rock with compassion for canines and cats, the Indiana radio station conducts an annual benefit complete with live music and auction items autographed by entertainment icons, all for the sake of helping area shelter pets.
Autograph hounds can show support for the state’s Fidos and felines by bidding on an array of items signed by recording artists. Following are a few of the musically-related items that will go under the hammer:
- Carrie Underwood’s “Play On” CD, signed by the Grammy-winning country crossover star.
- A Paul Rodgers tour jacket.
- A ballcap signed by Kenny Chesney.
- A guitar signed by the current members of the group STYX.
- A Greatest Hits CD and photo autographed by The Bangles.
- A CD of “Freight Train” featuring country crooner Alan Jackson’s John Hancock.
- A copy of the book Neon Angel by original member of The Runaways, Cherie Currie.
- An 8X10 autographed by Charlie Daniels.
- A drum head autographed by Hermann Rarebell, a former member of The Scorpions.
- A signed CD box set from classical composer Vangelis.
- A copy of the children’s book “When I Grow Up,” autographed by funnyman “Weird Al” Yankovic.
- “Cho Dependent” CD, signed by comedienne Margaret Cho.
A number of musical acts will also be on hand to provide the event’s soundtrack for the pet-loving public, including:
- Robert Rolfe Feddersen
- The Somethings
- Nicole Garza with The Carlos Ramos Band
- Old Skool (featuring Phil Miller and Greg Asby)
Money raised from the musical memorabilia auction and concert will benefit several shelters throughout Indiana, including:
- Humane Society Calumet Area in Munster
- Humane Society oF Northwest Indiana in Miler
- Humane Society of Hobart
- Lake Co. Animal Adoption and Control Center in Crown Point
- Last Chance Rescue, Inc. in Schererville
- Porter County Animal Shelter in Valparaiso
