Krewe of Barkus Mardi Gras Dog Parade, McKinney, TX, Mar. 6, 2011

In Texas, McKinney’s historic downtown is going to the dogs when the Art Institute of McKinney and McKinney Main Street sponsor the 9th annual Krewe of Barkus Mardi Gras Dog Parade and Festival. The event will kick off with a parade at 2 p.m. followed by a dog costume contest. This year’s theme is “Happy Tails to You…Barkus Salutes Texas and Wild, Wild West” so expect to see a whole posse of “cowpoke” dogs, children and their parents. Contest prizes will be awarded in several categories:

  • Best dog and owner costumes,
  • Best dog costume
  • Overall best of show costume

When: Sunday, March 6, 2011, 12:30 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Where: Mitchell Park,  McKinney, Texas

Price: Parade participation is free; entering your dog(s) in the costume contest requires a $5/dog fee. You can register by email or by calling the Art Institute of McKinney (972) 369-7911.

    The McKinney Main Street Department partnered with the Art Institute of McKinney to host the event which will feature a classic TV character theme for the dogs and their owners in the annual costume contest… The family was one of many that participated in the Seventh Annual Krewe of Barkus parade in downtown McKinney.
