Austinites will be taking to the streets with their pooches on April 2, 2011, as the Texas Hearing and Service Dogs organization throws its 13th annual Mighty Dog Walk and Festival. The event organizers hope that 13 is a lucky number as they attempt to bring the Guinness World Record for “World’s Largest Dog Walk” back to Austin, the scene of two previous records. The current record is 17,427 dogs, held by Great Britain.

When: April 2, 2011. The walk begins at 9 a.m. The festival will be held from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Waterloo Park.

Where: The three-mile walk through downtown will begin at 9 a.m. at the south end of Waterloo Park on East 12th Street. The festival will be held from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Waterloo Park.

For a Paws Cause: Proceeds support the mission of Texas Hearing and Service Dogs which trains shelter and rescue dogs to assist Texans living with hearing or mobility challenges.
