A plethora of paparazzi magnets will draw a crowd of canine and cat lovers to Ventura County Animal Services on August 6, 2011 as the Camarillo, California shelter kicks off the ASPCA 100K Challenge.

One of 50 shelters across the country competing to win much-needed prize money by placing pets in forever homes over a three-month period, Ventura County Services hopes that their “Shelter Pets are the Best Home Improvement You Can Make” theme makes their dream come true.

To kickoff the competition, True Blood cast member Michelle Forbes, Orlando Brown of Disney’s That’s So Raven and Surf Dog Ricochet (all of whom recently visited the Ventura County shelter to film PSAs and form a bond with the Fidos, felines and rabbits at the facility) will be joined by Animal Planet personality Jackson Galaxy of My Cat from Hell, Kim Sill of the Heigl Foundation and the skilled Spots of the dancing dog troupe Appawse to help homeless pets win starring roles in the lives of pet parents.

Potential adopters can mingle with the stars, check out the grand opening of a new community cat room and clap for the pups participating in canine demonstrations as they look for a furry friend and help the shelter reach their goal of placing 1,780 pets with loving families over the next three months.

After an attendee’s heart is won by one of the adorable adoptables, the pet parent can win a discount for their adoption by spinning the “Wheel of Fortune.”

When: August 6, 2011 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Where: Ventura County Animal Shelter at 600 Aviation Drive in Camarillo, California
