California canines are amped to ride the waves for a paws cause at the annual Surf City Surf Dog Competition, a three-day beach party that benefits Huntington Dog Beach, Orange County Humane Society, Southern California Bulldog Rescue, Surf Dog Ricochet for Chase Away K-9 Cancer and Westie Rescue of Orange County and Beyond.
Activities
- Trendsetting tail-waggers and pet parents will model some totally tubular tanks, T’s, and other seaside styles at the Dog is Beachin’ Dog is Good Fashion Show during the opening ceremonies, which will also include a live DJ, Puparazzi taking pix of red carpet Rovers, and canine-themed specialty cocktails from Zimzala Restaurant & Bar. Donations from the opening ceremonies will benefit this year’s official charity partners.
- From hounds in hula skirts to barking buddies in bikinis, fashion-forward Fidos will rule the catwalk in the PAWabunga Costume Contest and Owner-Dog-Look-A-Like- Contest.
- Dudes and dudettes can mellow out with their dogs at the Barking Buddha DOGA demonstration.
- If boogie boarding with your barking buddy isn’t your style, check out the Hot Diggity Dog Expo, which will feature exhibitors and pet adoption info from the event’s charity partners.
- Find out which surfing Spot will be the Big Kahuna at the main event, the Surf City Surf Dog Competition. Participating pups will compete in heats with dogs from the same size group before the Fidos face each other in the finals. Pet parents need to designate which charity is to receive $10 from their $45 registration fee.
