PetSmart Charities National Adoption Weekend, November 2 – 4, 2012

This year the first weekend in November will not only mark the start of the holiday season, it will also mean the start of a new life for thousands of homeless pets thanks to the PetSmart Charities National Adoption Weekend, sponsored by PetSmart, Purina® Pro Plan® and Tidy Cats®.

From November 2 – 4th, all 1,250 PetSmart locations across the U.S. Canada and Puerto Rico will welcome homeless dogs, cats, puppies and kittens from more than 2,000 animal welfare organizations to find forever homes for the pets. Participating local shelters and rescue agencies will receive $35 in adoption-reward grants from PetSmart Charities for each pet adopted during the event.

The national adoption weekend will help in the ongoing effort to end the cycle of eight million companion animals who find themselves in U.S. shelters every year, with half– approximately 11,000 every day– euthanized.

Visit the PetSmart Charities’ adoption center inside any PetSmart store in the U.S., Canada or Puerto Rico from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2 and Saturday, Nov. 3; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4. “Not only does an adoptable pet bring joy to our lives, but adoption is one of the key ways to end pet homelessness,” said Susana Della Maddalena, executive director of PetSmart Charities, Inc. “While adoption is one piece of the solution, we know not everyone is able to adopt. You can help celebrate saving a pet’s life with a donation that will fund adoption events like this that have played a role in finding homes for more than 5 million pets.”

A donation of just $25 can help to save the life of a healthy, adoptable animal and fund programs which give these pets a second chance. Donations can be made online, or by email at
